| Please read our FAQ's below to see if they answer any of your questions. If not we will be happy to reply in detail if you add them in your comment box when requesting an info / registration pack.
Q - How old do
you have to be to do the course?
We
recommend a minimum age of 18.
Q - Do you take
international students?
We accept
students from all over the world. It is important however that you have a good
understanding of English to fully benefit from the classes.
Q - Do you have
any accommodation for International Students?
Unfortunately we do not have accommodating facilities for International students. Our location map shows where we are in London and a link with the Transport for London website will allow you to plan your travel route.
Thereafter you can seek accommodation using the internet. B&B's (Bed and Breakfast) hotels are all over London and are approximately £30 per night for a single room. Naturally prices and standards vary. Do look at Short Let agents also. We will try to help as much as we can on individual cases advising where previous students were very happy to stay.
Q - Do I need
any previous experience or qualifications?
No previous experience or qualifications are needed only the ambition to be a successful make-up artist. We teach you all you need to learn to enter the industry as a professional hair and make-up artist.
Q -What areas
of make-up will this course allow me to work in?
You will be able to work in everything except special effect and prosthetics make up. Therefore, high fashion and beauty make-up for magazines, catwalk shows, weddings, music videos, celebrities, advertising campaigns, catalogues, television, films and personal make-up artistry are all areas you can look forward to working in. There are many excellent colour photograph, step by step books written by leading special effects make up artists to teach you at your own pace at home to do anything from simple cuts and bruises to full on gore and guts!
Q - Is there
any financial help available?
Yes you can contact the CDL on 0800 585 505. Our registration number is 11656. They can advise you on career development loans to assist you. This service is for U.K residents only.
Q - What
qualifications will I receive after taking this course?
In the make-up industry there are no ‘qualifications’ as such. Your portfolio represents you and demonstrates your experience and skill. This, and your professional manner and reputation is what gets you work. We explore in depth how you will start your portfolio and develop it to your best advantage. On satisfactory completion and attendance over 85%, you will receive a certificate of graduation and selected students are admitted into the agency, London Make-up Artists. Nicole Arter, principal and main tutor is the equivalent to a Level 2 Master Cosmetologist as established in the American industry.
Q - What help
do you give to students in developing their portfolio?
We work with each student on an individual basis and thoroughly explain and structure test shoots that you will take part in to build your portfolio. This includes on set etiquette and conduct, and most importantly the images you intend to start your portfolio off with and how to constantly improve them.
Q - Do you
assist graduates once they have left the course?
We are always in touch with graduated students for as long as is natural to your career. We like to say we make friends with our students too so are always happy to help even after several years.
Q -How long
before each course starts do you stop taking students?
As long as there are places available we will continue to take students.
Q - Does the
LMA have other branches worldwide?
We have no other branches or affiliations elsewhere at this time. We do however teach students from international visiting schools abroad including the USA and Japan on a regular basis.
Q - What after
course support do you provide for students?
We welcome our students to stay in touch and are always on hand for support and advice covering all areas of their careers.
Q - Why do you
not provide a kit within the fee?
We do not claim to provide a kit within our fees like some schools because it is not possible to provide a kit complete and adequate enough for an artist to use in the fees charged.
We have also been able to keep fees low because of this. We also believe in individual taste and understand an artist needs to use materials personally chosen by them.
We have given a kit list to guide you and are available to advise students on details when purchasing their kits. This has proven to be an excellent approach.
Q - How do you
put students on the right path after their course?
With our highly practical and up to date syllabus and our guest speakers, you are sure to know exactly how to go about achieving your goals in the quickest time frame possible. You are fully aware what is expected of you and how to specialise in your field of interest. Plus we are also there for free advice and guidance indefinitely.
